curb（初級）

“Strict public health measures and increased vaccination helped curb the outbreak.”

厳格な公衆衛生対策とワクチン接種の増加が、感染拡大を抑えるのに役立った。

意味

抑制する、歯止めをかける、という意味の動詞です。完全に止めるのではなく、勢いを抑えるというニュアンスがあります。感染症・支出・犯罪など「増えていくもの」に対してよく使われます。

uptick（中級）

ignite（上級）

点火する・火をつける、という意味ですが、比喩的に「何かを引き起こす・爆発的に広げる」という意味でも広く使われます。感染爆発・議論・紛争など、急激に広がるものの「きっかけ」を表す際によく登場します。
